Following the relocation of Julia’s Kitchen from Church Street into larger premises on High Street it hasn’t taken long for another brand new business to spring up in its place. However it is co-run by two already familiar village faces – one from Summers at Eleven next door and the other from Bar Six on Dutton’s Hill!
Yvonne Summers and Amanda Gardener have gone into partnership to provide Ruddington with a much needed general gift shop – after other similar village ventures over the past couple of decades fizzled out. Whilst there are already Ruddington retailers specialising in fabrics, “Home Interiors and Gifts” are the focus of this new business.
They officially open this Saturday, the 5th of November but, having all the signage already in place and leaving the door unlocked earlier this week, proved to be too much for the inquisitive folk in Ruddington to resist a peek inside!
“We had lots of lovely people through the door having a look , buying and a few thanking us for opening a home and gift shop” says Yvonne. “Even though we were cleaning windows and pricing things everyone was fab and it seems to have gone down great so far!”
Yvonne and Amanda are very much open for feedback and suggestions on what villagers would like them to stock in the future. They already have lots of hand crafted goods in the new shop along with cards and art work by local designers and artists. They also hope to create a hub for supporting local talent and creative individuals alongside their home interiors and gifts. Plus, of course, Christmas is coming – and their first “festive shelf” is already in place!
